Dr. Pendergrass obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee/Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. An Oncology and Hematology fellowship followed at Brown University-Roger Williams General Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He then completed a clinical and research fellowship in oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. His board certifications include Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

Dr. Pendergrass serves as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri at Kansas City as well as the Medical Director for Donor and Collection Centers of the Heart of America Bone Marrow Donor Registry/National Marrow Donor Program. He holds many professional memberships with such societies as the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is an active board member with the Leukemia Society of America and the American Cancer Society. He served as Research Medical Center’s Oncology department chair for nearly two decades, beginning in 1980. Dr. Pendergrass routinely serves as principal investigator for cancer research studies and has published numerous abstracts and articles to help further new drug development.

Kelly has been married for 30 years and has three adult sons. He enjoys golf, skiing, KU basketball and traveling with his family.
