Community Involvement

Kansas City Cancer Center (KCCC) has embraced cancer related charities in the Greater Kansas City Area for many years. KCCC actively partners with such organizations as the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Cancer Action, Inc., to provide cancer information and resources to patients and their families. In addition, KCCC collaborates with other local and civic organizations to advance research into cancer and to assist those living with the disease. Among those organizations is the Center for Practical Bioethics, the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute, and Turning Point.

With eleven diagnostic and treatment facilities located throughout the bi-state metro area, Kansas City Cancer Center belongs to six local Chambers of Commerce—the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Lee’s Summit Chamber and south Kansas City Chamber in Missouri, and the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, Kansas City Kansas Chamber, and Lenexa Chamber in Kansas.

In addition, exciting partnerships with The Kansas City Chiefs, The Royals, and The T-Bones have helped to further public awareness about cancer and its causes. The “Chief Challenge,” a program begun in 2004 to prompt fans to take an online risk assessment for cancer, was the first of its kind in the NFL.

In October, 2004, an important new tradition was started with many fountains in the Kansas City metro area running pink! In partnership with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Board and the City of Lenexa, the highly visible fountains provided a colorful reminder to area women to be tested for breast cancer. Now each year, the fountains will run pink during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
