Innovative form of internal radiation places radiation adjacent to the tumor bed, treating cancer from the inside out. |
A Leader in Emerging Cancer Technologies
With High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, a catheter is placed next to the site of the tumor. High doses of radiation are then delivered through the catheter directly to the cancer target. This tightly focused approach ensures the maximum radiation at the site of the cancer, while allowing minimal exposure to surrounding tissue. Both surface and deep tumors can be treated through the use of applicators specific to an anatomical area.
• Patients benefit by a shorter treatment course performed on outpatient basis
• Reduces side effects associated with external radiation, such as skin irritation and burning
• Highly suited for many gynecological tumors as well as partial breast irradiation (SAVI, MammoSite, Contura)
